You don’t have to prepare taxes to volunteer with AccountAbility Minnesota. We have opportunities for various abilities, interests and areas of expertise. For complete position descriptions, please click on the links below.

Tax preparer: Complete federal and state returns using tax software.  Training is provided, but some basic tax experience is helpful.

Self-employment tax preparer:  Complete federal and state returns using tax software for customers who are independent contractors or sole proprietors.  Two to three years tax experience and/or experience working with Schedule C is needed, training is provided.

Tax preparer/reviewerSpend the first half of the shift preparing tax returns for customers and the second half reviewing the work of other volunteer tax preparers.

Tax site specialist:  Help manage the flow of activities at the tax site. Greet and register customers, screen for eligibility and provide general customer service. No previous tax experience is required.

Interpreter/tax site specialist:  Provide translation between customer and volunteer. Help manage the flow of activities at the tax site. Greet and register customers, screen for eligibility, and provide general customer service. Languages needed:  Spanish, Amharic, Oromo, Somali, Hmong, Russian and American Sign Language. No previous tax experience is required.

Financial advocate:  Provide information on credit reports, work support programs and strategies for savings.

Financial planner: Offer a broad range of services to clients including (but not limited to) credit counseling, retirement planning, budgeting plans and asset building strategies.
