We are guided by the belief that an individual’s ability to access tax services should not depend solely on his or her ability to pay for them.
Becuase of our free services, low-income families and individuals receive 100% of the refunds and tax credits that they are due and deserve – refunds that can add up to 40% of their income and move them above the poverty line.
Scope of our work
During 2010, AccountAbility Minnesota and our statewide partners:
- Identified and filed for $35 million in refunds for taxpayers in Minnesota.
- Enlisted the help of 389 volunteers who donated 27,132 hours filing 43,355 returns.
- Assisted 19,301 taxpayers statewide in filing taxes, free of charge
- Connected 493 unbanked customers to new credit union and bank savings accounts and 158 customers to Express Refund Loans across the state.
- Provided services at 12 tax sites in the Twin Cities, all located in the hearts of the communities we serve.
- Spoke 15 unique languages, allowing us to best serve our highly diverse customer base.
