At AccountAbility Minnesota, we help you claim the largest refund possible and provide you with the tools and knowledge necessary to grow your refund.
We enlist the help of nearly 600 IRS-certified volunteers to prepare your taxes.
We offer tax assistance year-round:
- January 24 - April 17 (traditional tax season): Clinics at 12 sites in the Twin Cities metro area.
- May and June: Clinics at two sites -- AccountAbility Minnesota and Minneapolis Urban League.
- July through October: Taxes are prepared solely at the AccountAbility Minnesota main office.
Income guidelines:
- Individuals making $30,000 or less per year
- Families making $50,000 or less per year

Do I qualify for free tax prep from AccountAbility Minnesota?
Our tax services are offered free of charge to individuals with a yearly income of $30,000 or less and families with a yearly income of $50,000 or less.
Where do I go to get my taxes done for free?
We have 12 tax sites in St. Paul, Minneapolis, Bloomington, Hopkins and Brooklyn Center. To find a tax clinic nearest you, visit our Find a tax clinic.
What if there isn’t one in my area?
Do I need to make an appointment?
Our tax prep clinics do not require appointments — taxpayers are helped on a first-come, first-served basis. If you require special accommodations, please call 651-287-0187.
How long will it take to get my money?
Filing taxes the traditional way – where a check will be mailed to you — typically takes 14-21 days.
If you have a bank account, we can direct deposit your refund. You’ll typically (not always) receive your state refund in 4-5 business days and federal refund in 9-15 business days.
If you don’t have a bank account, let us know. We’ll work with you to open an account.
